Leicester Underwater Exploration Club raise more than £2,000 to support local lifesaving charity

Leicester Underwater Exploration Club (LUEC) have raised more than £2,000 to support the lifesaving missions of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).

Leicester Underwater Exploration Club (LUEC) was founded in 1958 and is one of the largest scuba diving and snorkelling clubs in the East Midlands – affiliated to the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), the UK’s leading dive club and national governing body. The club has strong links to Stoney Cove, the UK’s national dive centre and the large inland quarry is their preferred site for outdoor training and celebrations.

A total of more than twenty divers took part in a dive marathon to raise funds to support the lifesaving charity’s missions in Leicestershire and further afield.

The twelve-hour dive marathon at Stoney Cove began at 8.30am with all divers in buddy pairs for each 45 minute, 6 metre dive, with everyone successfully completing the challenge at 8.30pm and raising a total of £2,122.52.

“We would like to say thank you to everyone who took part in the dive marathon, to everyone who generously donated, as well as to Stoney Cove who allowed all divers to donate their entrance fee to support the charity,” said Helen Hamilton, member of Leicester Underwater Exploration Club.

“We had a fantastic day, and we are looking forward to our next challenge helping to raise funds for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and their lifesaving missions,” she added.

Within minutes, DLRAA’s critical care crews can be on the ground delivering pre-hospital emergency care and giving patients the very best chance of survival – this vital service relies entirely on donations to raise the £2,300 needed for each lifesaving mission, as the charity receives no government or National Lottery funding.

“We would like to say thank you to everyone involved in the Leicester Underwater Exploration Club for raising vital funds to support our charity,” said Molly Norton, Community Fundraising Relationship Executive for the charity.

“We rely on the generous support from local communities and businesses just like this to raise the £2,300 needed for each lifesaving mission,” she expressed.
