Kieren

We attend three road collisions involving cyclists every month

Kieren was one of those who needed our help

Kieren had been out doing what he loved best – cycling with his dad and uncle. Since he was young he has loved bikes and cycling. But that day, while crossing a main road, he was suddenly knocked from his bike by a car. The impact was devastating.

Kieren’s injuries were extensive. We immediately flew our highly skilled trauma team to him to give him the best possible chance of survival. Due to the level of care he required, our critical care paramedic Danny Evans went with him in the land ambulance on the tense 20 minute journey to the nearest major trauma centre.

Kieren had been so badly injured he needed to learn to walk, talk and eat again, but against all odds he is now back on his bike. And amazingly, on the anniversary of his accident, he cycled 100 miles to raise money for our charity – to help save other people’s lives.

Following his recovery Kieren made this video about his story.
