Thank You Race Hut and AMG Mercedes

They are there when we need them; The Air Ambulance Service performs an invaluable job to the population of the UK.

To help keep them flying, The Race Hut together with the might of World Champion AMG Mercedes Benz Formula 1 team (based in Brackley) hosted an adrenaline fuelled, fun packed 12 hours endurance race on Sunday 5th June 2016 at The Race Hut’s Oxford venue. The aim was to raise £500; over £1,500 was raised.

Early on Sunday 5th June, The Race Hut welcomed 14 teams (90 drivers in total) to compete in the inaugural 12 hours of Montreal. An endurance event, the energised teams all drove identical cars on The Race Hut’s racing car simulators, at its purpose built venue in Oxford.

Throughout the event, each team had to manage pitstops, tyres, fuel, staying on the track(!), keeping drivers fresh and encouraging one another. The 16 allocated race simulators are state of the art and were prepared for the enduro. Teams from the Mercedes Benz F1 team were there, as were teams from motorsport bible Autosport, as well games gurus Codemasters but importantly local businesses keen to get involved in a very cost effective motorsport race for a very deserving cause.

Throughout the event, many emotions were heard. A cheer from teams and driving partners once they gained a place; a groan from another once they lost a place. As the race grew older, so the teams got them into a pattern; pitstops became an art form. Communication, team building and engagement was absolutely essential. However, brilliant fun was had by all.

Tracy Grunwell, on behalf of Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance commented: “It was a terrific event, everyone had a great time and the funds raised was fantastic. This was a different kind of event that The Race Hut hosted for AMG Mercedes F1 from what we are used to. Its highly original and clearly encouraged those taking part to dig deep; we’re thankful for every penny.”

David Goode, managing director for The Race Hut: “We were delighted to be asked by Richard to put on their event to assist their nominated charity: the air ambulance service. We love hosting events such as this; it’s our forte.  We are no strangers to hosting events such as this, but every such event is unique and tailored to our client’s demands. It has to be memorable, and that’s what myself and the team dedicate to doing.  We used our expertise to guide the team at AMG Mercedes Benz F1 on how best to invite teams, raise funds and use the superb facilities we have here in Oxford. What’s more, you don’t need to be a racing driver to enjoy our simulators; everyone is welcome.
