Doncaster local completed London Marathon to raise funds for lifesaving children’s charity

Katy Upton from Doncaster completed the London Marathon to raise funds to support the lifesaving missions of the Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA).

On Sunday 27 April 2025 Katy took on the London Marathon, weaving through the streets of the capital from Greenwich to Westminster while taking in some of London’s iconic landmarks.

“It was my first time taking on the London Marathon in April and I’m thrilled to have completed the challenge while raising vital funds to support the Children’s Air Ambulance.

“I chose to support the children’s charity as I have worked with families who have previously needed their assistance and have seen the impact it has had on our local area,” said Katy.

Katy raised further funds at the school she teaches at by holding raffles, bake sales and non-uniform days.

“Our school’s trust, Delta Academies have also named the children’s charity their charity of the year and many of the children at the school have been helping to fundraise too.

“My advice anyone thinking of taking on a physical challenge to support a charity is take each day as it comes and always remember why you started it in the first place,” expressed Katy.

The Children’s Air Ambulance is a charity changing the face of paediatric and neonatal care through the high-speed transfer of critically ill babies and children – flying them from one hospital to another for specialist care via the clinically designed helicopters, which provide a flying intensive care unit for babies and children.

The charity works alongside 11 NHS Clinical Partner Teams across the UK, including Embrace Yorkshire & Humber Infant & Children’s Transport Service, part of Sheffield Children’s Hospital NHS Foundations Trust.

Morgan Turnbull, Junior Events Manager for the charity said:

“We are extremely grateful to Katy for taking on the London Marathon to raise funds to support our charity.”

“We receive no government or National Lottery funding for our lifesaving missions and rely on donations from the local community and businesses to raise the £3,600 needed for each mission for critically ill babies and children across the UK.

“Every penny Katy raised will go towards our next lifesaving mission,” she added.
