Doncaster boy to take on 20-mile cycle challenge to help critically ill children

A determined six-year-old boy from Armthorpe is taking on a 20-mile cycle challenge in aid of the Doncaster-based Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA).

Samuel Dove will be boldly setting off from his home in Armthorpe on Sunday 4 July to cycle a 20-mile route – on and off-road – around Doncaster alongside his dad, before finishing his challenge at the charity’s Doncaster superstore, The Hanger.

Sam is a member of #TheCrew – an exciting club for children linked to the lifesaving charity – and chose this challenge to raise vital funds needed to keep the national charity flying.

“I joined #TheCrew last year because I wanted to raise some money to help the Children’s Air Ambulance because I think it’s a great charity,” says Sam.

“My Dad and I love cycling so I really wanted to ride my bike as far as I could. Dad and I are going to do 20 miles in one go, and I have been training at weekends and after school so I can’t wait for Sunday,” he adds.

When Sam pedals to the finish line at the Doncaster superstore, he will be greeted by a Children’s Air Ambulance cheering squad, with staff waving banners and balloons to celebrate his brilliant achievement.

The charity’s recently launched mascot Blade will also be in attendance, to give Sam a well-deserved big bear high-five.

Youth Development Manager for TCAA, Anoushka Brown comments:

“Sam is an inspirational young boy for taking on such a tough challenge and for training hard during his free time.”

“It’s great to see him enjoying being a member of #TheCrew and already raising over £200 for our charity! We know he will smash the challenge and we can’t wait to cheer him over the finish line!”

Being a member of #TheCrew like Sam, children can learn about saving lives, helicopters, medicine, fundraising, and how a charity works. The club offers advice and teaching on community work, volunteering, working as part of a team, and supporting good causes which form part of many school curriculums.

“It is completely free to join and, once signed up, members will receive an awesome welcome pack,” adds Anoushka.
