Derbyshire extreme cycling challenge to support charity’s lifesaving missions
Pure Peak Grit will be helping to raise vital funds to support the lifesaving missions of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).
Pure Peak Grit (PPG) is a road cycling route linking together virtually every categorised climb in the Peak District National Park and 9% of Britain’s ‘Greatest 100 Cycling Climbs’ – making it the hilliest long distance road cycling event in the UK.
The extreme ride is over 600km long with an ascent of over 13,500m and includes 44 categorised climbs, some of which have gradients exceeding 30%.
The mammoth cycling challenge will take place on Saturday 28 June 2025 and will start and finish at Barn Farm Campsite, Birchover and a portion of each entry fee will go towards supporting the charity’s lifesaving missions in Derbyshire and further afield.
“We are aware of the vitally important role the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance plays in helping those in need of swift medical assistance. Knowing that such a dedicated team are providing lifesaving services means that we are able to take on the challenges of some of the best hill climbs in the country, in the knowledge they are there if we need them,” said Laura Massey-Pugh, Race Director at Pure Peak Grit.
“Please join us in 2025 to take on this incredible challenge and help to support a deserving charity. We are delighted to support their fantastic work with this year’s event,” she added.
The Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance crew delivers critical care at road traffic collisions, sports events, medical emergencies – such as cardiac arrest and accidents at home – and other incidents needing expert pre-hospital medical interventions.
Kim Blount, Challenge Portfolio and Events Manager for the charity said:
“I would like to say a big thank you to Pure Peak Grit for offering to support the lifesaving missions of the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.”
“We receive no government or National Lottery funding, so rely on donations and support from the local community and businesses just like this so our crews can be available 24/7, 365 days a year to administer lifesaving pre-hospital care to those who need it most”, she added.
