Bedford pub raises more than £4,000 to support lifesaving charity

St John’s Arms in Bedford has raised more than £4,000 to support the lifesaving missions of the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA).

St John’s Arms in Bedford is a beautiful country pub located close to the Northamptonshire border and throughout 2024 they have raised a total of £4,260 to support the local charity’s lifesaving missions.

The pub raised the vital funds by holding clay pigeon shooting events, quiz nights and even a summer BBQ and have now joined the charity’s initiative Pub Club to raise further funds during 2025.

“As a rural pub that’s embedded in the country sport community we have witnessed first-hand the charity’s crucial role in saving lives,” said Lexy Beaty, the landlord at St John’s Arms.

“We are immensely grateful to our wonderful customers whose generosity has helped us to raise vital funds to support the charity’s further lifesaving missions,” she added.

Within minutes, the WNAA and DLRAA critical care crews can be on the ground delivering pre-hospital emergency care and giving patients the very best chance of survival – this vital service relies entirely on donations to raise the £2,300 needed for each rescue mission, as the charity receives no government or National Lottery funding.

Community Fundraising Executive for Northamptonshire, Karen Hughes said:

“On behalf of the charity I would like to say a big thank you to Lexy, St John’s Arms and to everyone who contributed towards their amazing donation for our lifesaving charity.”

“We receive no government or National Lottery funding for our vital missions and rely on the support from the local community and businesses to keep our crews providing pre-hospital critical care 24/7, 365 days a year,” she expressed

Pub Club

The charity’s initiative, Pub Club, brings together landlords, breweries and pub visitors to give them a place to fundraise through a whole host of means such as quizzes, games tournaments, family fun days and themed evenings in support of the national lifesaving charity. All participants get full support from a dedicated Community Fundraising Executive in their local area, as well as bespoke collateral to help promote their involvement and support for the charity.
