Birthday surprise for former patient

Watch the amazing moment our former patient was reunited with the doctor who saved his life.

Jamie Burnett was rescued by Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) in August 2014 after his lower half was crushed by a dumper truck.

Our air ambulance raced to the scene to provide help to Jamie, who had broken both legs, shattered his pelvis, sustained a number of other severe injuries, and lost a huge amount of blood and skin. He was raced to Kettering General Hospital by land ambulance for an emergency blood transfusion, then taken immediately to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, where he spent several days in an induced coma.

Thanks to the quick action of the emergency services who came to his rescue, one year on, Jamie is still here and going from strength to strength. He’s walking again and has met most of the crew who helped save his life.

But there was one very important person he had not yet met – Dr Adam Manson, the onboard trauma doctor who helped Jamie survive the trip to surgery. Since his accident, Jamie has wanted to say “thank you for saving my life.”

For his birthday this year, we arranged for him to visit our airbase for a surprise party with a very special guest – Dr Manson.

Able to reach speeds of up to 185mph, our state of the art AgustaWestland 109 helicopters’ average response time is just 13 minutes.
